South Fork Report 8-13-2010

The South Fork is still fishing well with little Dries and Hopper/Chernobyl Ant patterns. I had a chance to fish early Wednesday morning with Tom Pooton and Carlton Wing of Wing Media Group. We fished from Wolf to Heise Bridge and started at 6:30 in the morning. The fishing didn’t really pick up until around 10:00 a.m. Below is a photo of Tom and Carlton in the Fly Pod along with Parker in the back ground.

The South Fork contuines to fish well. We have had some good days in the “riffs” and the banks are starting to fish well in the mornings and late evenings. Below are a few photos from the last couple weeks.

There was an unfortunate incident on the South Fork of the Snake River recently. An emergency parking brake on a truck snapped while launching a jet boat. The boat was recovered but these photos were taken down stream a bit farther.

4th of July Salmon Idaho

My parents live in Salmon Idaho and it has been several years since my family spent the 4th of July in Salmon. I have several photos of the weekend. It started off with the Salmon City Parade. Like always, nothing changes and you always get to see horses and demolition derby cars. However, I must post one photo of the parade. Check out my wife after a group horses went by and drop some horse candy.

The parade was a success and we had a good laugh. I wasn’t able to fish over the weekend but Parker and his two cousins did a lot of fishing at the local kids pond.

The most excitement I had was on Saturday morning when I woke up to a skunk smell… I was hoping the dogs didn’t have anything to do with it but I was wrong… River (short hair) and Lemhi (lab) decided to have some fun… I wasn’t lucky however, and had to give the dogs a bath.

It was a great weekend and I always fill lucky when I get to spend time with my Family. This last photo is of my two nephews Chase and Cole, My dad and my son Parker.

South Fork 06-27-2010 Report

The Stenersen family decided to get out of the house Sunday and float the South Fork. We floated from Wolf to Byington from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The flow at Byington was 16900 cfs and water temp started at 51 degrees and warmed up to 53 degrees by the time we got off the river. We didn’t have any dry fly activity and all the fish we landed came on a Pat’s Rubber leg with a Stenersen golden/sally nymph dropped off the rubber leg. Parker did move a few fish on a hot orange Super X. Below I posted a photo’s of the fish we landed. My fish was the biggest.

on the way out we ran into this crew (photo Below) in the Clacka Max on an overnighter… Zack (back of boat) Matt ( on the sticks) and Jake (up front). FYI… the fishing was slow for them also and said the North Channel at Twin Bridges was very interesting!!!

Father’s Day Fishing Trip

Each year on Father’s Day we go Bluegill fishing down to Twin Lakes near Preston Idaho. The fishing this year was a little slower than the past and we had to work hard to find some of the bigger Bluegill.

However all the hard work paid off and Parker and I held court until the wind started to blow.

We had a great time and thanks to Jimmy and Milli Gabettas for going along with us. Also Thanks to my wife Colette who worked all day Saturday on a great lunch for Sunday.

Scott Hed, the organizer for Sportsmans Alliance For Alaska (the group behind the anti-pebble mine stickers) just sent out this email that details how a few mouse clicks and minutes can help raise $50,000.

Not sure if you’ve seen this deal. SAA is participating in a “no strings attached” fundraising contest online sponsored by eBay. Over $50K is up for grabs to the top 30 organizations receiving the most votes. Right now SAA is sitting at #33.

Contest ends on June 22, so less than a week to make a big push. All folks need to do is visit the contest site and vote for SAA. If they send out through their Facebook network, etc. they can earn more votes. Additional votes can be earned by making a donation (10 votes for every $10).

81st birthday at Clark Canyon

My Dad’s 81st birthday was last Saturday so my oldest brother (Brent) and his son(Tyler) drove up from Pocatello Sunday to Idaho Falls and Parker and I loaded up and went to see my mom and dad and 2nd oldest brother Rob at the R.V. park at Clark Canyon. Mom cooked up a great dinner and cake for all us. Fishing was slow but the trip was well worth it. The photo below is all the Stenersen boys.

Before we could leave Parker had to make “one more cast” and was able to land this brown(photo below) and a big rainbow. No photo of the rainbow because the battery on the camera went dead.

Spring Run Off

Has officially arrived on the South Fork of the Snake river. But it looks like it will shape up in time for Stoneflies later in June. I guess we’ll be heading for the local still water spots in the mean time.
