Montana’s Opening Weekend

I was able to fish a few days last weekend in Montana.  I had to work the Rivers Edge demo day but was able to slip in a few hours fishing.  It started off Friday evening at Hebgen lake.  The ice was just starting to go so fishing was pretty good.  IMGP4487After working all day at the Rivers Edge we slipped out to fish the Lower Madison.  Armed with advice from Steve and Dan we loaded up and by 5:00 had our waders on.  A good caddis hatch along with some small golden stones.  I was able to land several nice fish on dries. However, Parker put on a Streamer (olive circus peanut) and went to work fishing every piece of pocket water he could find and he did find a few fish.

DSCN1601 On Sunday we ended up wade fishing behind Kelly Galluops Slide Inn.  I started off with high sticking small midge patterns.  After a while I switched over to streamers because I couldn’t stand watching Parker land fish.  This time Parker was working over the fish with a Olive Zoo Cougar.
